- Description:
- Plane, "L DODGE", "B: FROGATT". Medium-brown, fine-grained hardwood. Some grain flecks showing on left side. Some pronounced annular rings on both sides. Chamfer at front that starts near sole surface, runs up front to right-angle front corner, across top edge to rounded back corner and down side to a point near sole. Right side chamfer mirrors left. Sole surface is curved upwards at ends. Front end height 2.2", heel height 1.8". Fairly uniform chamfer across bottom edge on both sides. These chamfer surfaces are fairly flat. A couple small grooves in middle of chamfer in front of throat. Cutting pattern is V-shaped groove. Iron width 0.25". On right side is a recessed surface that is 0.1" below side surface. This recess has straight, horizontal top surface. Bottom edge of recess is flat chamfer previously described. Chamfered surfaces leads one to think that current configuration was produced from a different pattern for tool. Evidenced by slightly uneven chamfered surfaces along sole. Stamp on left side: "L DODGE". Stamp on toe, vertically oriented, facing left side. It is a box stamp with some serrated edges. Top and bottom edges of box conforms slightly to edges of characters. Letters are uppercase and lower case. "B: Frogatt." Iron has some surface corrosion. End slightly turned over end of tang which is bent up slightly. Some inactive corrosion on iron surfaces.
