Description:
Plane, molding. "OHIO TOOL CO". Fine-grained, light-tan hardwood with small annular rings showing on sides and on heel and toe. Very fine fleck pattern on left side. Chamfering starts, no groove. Chamfered to a right angle top front edge. Top left edge is chamfered from front to rounded back edge. Back edge chamfered downward, that roughly corresponds with height of extension on right side. On right side chamfering mirrors the configuration on left side. Top of extension has shallow concave groove in it. Plane has small sharp, straight chamfers across bottom, left, and right edges. Cutting pattern starts with flat surface left edge, then proceeds directly up to 3/4 round groove with sharp edge. Sharp edge at right side and it proceeds up again to a land that extends to right side. Land is approx same height of rounded groove. Insert approx. 0.13" wide, 0.78" high in body. It creates the sharp edge portion of design. Insert has shrunken slightly in width and height at heel and toe surfaces. Stamps on heel. Top one: "37". Below it and on extension near top edge of it is "1 -- 4". Stamped on front: "OHIO TOOL CO." Iron has its tang on left side. It is slightly tapered in its width. End of tang has one, very small spot where it is slightly turned over. No stamps. Whole iron is slightly tapered in thickness from cutting edge to end of tang.
