Description:

Plane, molding. "L DODGE", "T TILESTON", "BOSTON". Medium-brown, fine-grained hardwood with annular rings on front. Some small grain flecks on left side and right side of extension. Cutting profile is from left. Flat surface and concave, semi-circular higher right edge with a small groove at end of semi-circle. Elevated land above it at right. Insert in center with two rectangular notches, one on each side. Insert 0.8" wide x 0.9" high. It constitutes the major portion of profile that is being cut. On left small horizontal groove at front edge on left side about halfway up. Upward from groove, edge is chamfered to a right angle top front edge. Top left edge is chamfered from front to rounded back edge. Back edge chamfered downward to a small horizontal groove that roughly corresponds with height of extension on right side. On right side chamfering mirrors the configuration on left side. Top of extension has shallow concave groove in it. Plane has small sharp, straight chamfers across bottom, left, and right edges. Stamped on heel upper right corner of extension "3 / 8". Stamped on left side facing down: "L DODGE". Stamped on toe vertically-oriented is box stamp that has some serrations across part of top: "L. DODGE". Below is another box stamped, serrated edges: "T. TILESTON". Below that is another box stamp with serrated lower edge with italics, serif: "BOSTON". Irregular, but mirror image shapes at end of box. Top of box has no serrations. Irons have tangs on left side for both cutting and back iron. Both irons have slightly turn-over ends of tangs. No marks.
