Description:
Plane, molding. "L DODGE", "M COPELAND". Medium-brown, fine-grained hardwood. Some grain flecks on left and right side. Annular rings are almost horizontal. On left small horizontal groove at front edge on left side about halfway up. Upward from groove, edge is chamfered to a right angle top front edge. Top left edge is chamfered from front to rounded back edge. Back edge chamfered downward to a small horizontal groove that roughly corresponds with height of extension on right side. On right side chamfering mirrors the configuration on left side. Top of extension has shallow concave groove in it. Plane has small sharp straight chamfers across bottom, left, and right edges. Left side is a chamfer across bottom edge about inch wide. Molding description is shallow, convex surface and about 1.4" wide. Depth of groove that it would cut about 0.2" deep. On right side of extension at back is a worn stamp with horizontal orientation, serrated edges, characters quite worn and looks to have been struck twice due to another serrated edge. Above it is another stamp on side of body, edges totally worn, characters mostly illegible: "L. D.......". Two horizontal stamps near bottom on front, serrated edges, both same: L. DODGE". Above that near top and vertically oriented are 2 stamps, serrated edge: "M. COPELAND". Below it in italics with serrated: "WARRANTED". Blade stuck in place. Tang has turned-over top end. Three diagonal straight lines on bottom surface of tang above where it enters body of plane.
