Plane, Molding

Object Name:
Plane, Molding
Object ID:
1979.070.025
Description:
Plane, molding. "M W." Medium-brown, fine-grained hardwood. Small horizontal groove at front edge on left side about halfway up. Upward from groove, edge is chamfered to a right angle top front edge. Top left edge is chamfered from front to rounded back edge. Back edge chamfered downward to a small horizontal groove that roughly corresponds with height of extension on right side. On right side chamfering mirrors the configuration on left side. Top of extension has shallow concave groove in it. Plane has small sharp straight chamfers across bottom left and right edges. From left side is a flat and straight vertical, small horizontal shoulder, 1/4 round concave, squared groove with long downward shoulder on right side. Flat horizontal surface then tall vertical surface to a flat land. That terminates at right side. Front section of right-hand tongue missing from front of plane before blade. Plane stamped on front: "MW" horizontally. Remnants of vertical stamp with serrated edges near top on front. All surfaces except for bottom show signs of being sanded because of coarse sanding marks present on surfaces. Blade has some old corrosion on angled surfaces. Inactive corrosion on tang. Tang marked with three "X" close together near the center of the length of it. Executed with simple straight crossed lines as opposed to stamped letter. End of tang is ever-so-slightly turned over.
