Object Name:
Pattern, Needlework
Object ID:
1980.502.06 a-b
Description:
Embroidery pattern, pencil on paper. Foliate design.
a. Pencil and paper design. Fanciful floral designs on fairly translucent tracing paper, slightly tan in color. Designs on this paper match up with "b" of this accession number. Rough, straight line across bottom edge for portion of design. Fanciful plants all quite large in size. Seem to be mostly leaves. Stems that join leaves not quite complete throughout. Design elements relatively complete for something fanciful, but individual portions somewhat crudely drawn. Pencil script in three places; one along top edge near center: "li /gi"; another floral cluster to right of center: "rust red" and "red" on a couple of leaves. Bottom center, "soft tan browns--".
b. Pencil and paper design. Partial floral design on thin, relatively translucent tracing paper, slightly tan in color. At left side, some straight pencil marks parallel to edge that meet horizontal pencil marks to create straight border for design. Width border ~2". Straight lines actually segments of lines drawn by hand. Appear to be top segments of fanciful, floral designs. Probable four or five elements in designs. Written from left, some descriptions. At far left, pencil script: "dark lines". Next design to right "red" three times on three adjacent petals. In center of leaf group, "rust red". In next fanciful leaf group: "soft tans browns". To right of that and in same fanciful cluster: "tans browns--".
