Description:
Embroidery pattern, pencil on paper. Design includes tree, birds, and insects. Drawn on relatively translucent tracing paper, light tan, and brittle. Design theme in center running vertically of combination of plants and animals. Central tree running from bottom to top becoming more fanciful with more curves near top. Water and bit of shore line with plant materials, simple short leaves at bottom. Lower left, deer-like animal standing and drinking from water with head down, facing right. Just behind it, another deer-like animal, also facing right with elevated head eating from tall plant. Second deer only partially seen being directly behind first one. Horizontal, curved lines to indicate hills. Central tree trunk with several zig zag lines across it to indicate bark. Plant with upward curved stem and some fanciful leaves and perhaps blossoms to right of tree trunk. It somehow curves in front of tree trunk extending to sheet to left with one of its very fanciful leaves and blossom. Further up near middle of sheet, butterfly-like insect, facing roughly left, perhaps sitting on stem with small fruit along stem. Just above middle, bird perched on fat, curved stem that faces right. Top rendition of bird seen with feathers and closely-cropped tail feather area. On bird's back, written "very soft tans". Near back of bird but before tail, written "soft gray". In front of bird, near edge of paper: "left Center". More curling stems, fanciful leaves, blossoms, and fruit. Above bird is second bird, more of a profile, grasping stems. Faces left; slight straight beak; peak of feathers top of head that face rear. Feathers side of body. Wing feather extending towards back. Below them cluster of tail feathers. Feathers all tight and in groove rather than big fluffy masses. Some blue-colored pencil coloring in some portions of fanciful flowers on left side. Also, colors a bit of insect and a fanciful flower near left edge. Some blue pencil in deer at bottom. Designs go close to edge all the way around except near bottom at right bottom, fanciful leaf that goes off sheet. Bottom edge of sheet, corrugated due to pinking shears (?)
