Description:
Lithograph, offset, Aquamarine, after Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966), printed by Stinehour Press, published by Artshows & Products, Corp., 1993. Ink on paper mounted on paper. Depicting two nudes on rocky shore of deep blue lake or ocean, lone tree on boulder, center foreground, and mountain right background. Mounted on textured paper with blind-stamp lettering, lower center: "MAXFIELD PARRISH / Aquamarine". Along with "M.P" on mount at lower right, under image.
On cover sheet on reverse: "ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS AN ARTIST WHO DOMINATED THE IMAGES AMERICA LOVED SO MUCH SO THAT IN THE / 1920'S, ONE OUT OF FOUR HOMES HAD HIS WORLD OF MAKE-BELIEVE HANGING ON THEIR WALLS. IN A SURVEY TAKEN IN 1925, / VAN GOGH, CEZANNE, AND PARRISH WERE THOUGHT TO BE THE THREE GREATEST ARTISTS OF ALL TIME. HIS POSTERS, '/ CALENDARS, MAGAZINE COVERS, AND BOOD ILLUSTRATIONS MADE HIM A HOUSEHOLD NAME. CONSEQUENTLY, MAXFIELD / PARRISH WAS THE MOST POPULAR AMERICAN ARTIST OF THE EARLY DECADES OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. A PROLIFIC / AND UNIQUE TALENT, MAXFIELD PARRISH WAS BORN IN 1870 AND LIVED AND WORKED THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER IN THE / CORNISH HILLS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE." To the right: "HE PASSED AWAY AT THE AGE OF 95 IN 1966, HAVING LIVED TO SEE HIS WORKS CONTINUALLY REVERED BY SUCCESSIVE / GENERATIONS AND RECOGNIZED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. HIS USE OF COLOR WAS PURE AND STRAIGHT FROM HIS TUBES / OF PAINT. THE COLORS WERE SO BOLD THAT EVEN TODAY COBALT BLUE IS REFERRED TO AS 'MAXFIELD PARRISH BLUE.' HE / LAID OUT HIS PAINTINGS ACCORDING TO THE LINES OF 'DYNAMIC SYMMETRY.' IT BECAME A SYSTEM FOR HIM - LAYOUTS AS IN / A MONTAGUE, WHICH HE WOULD THEN PAINT. THE FINAL EXECUTION WAS ALMOST ETCHING - LIKE, PRECISELY ARTICULATED WITH / ROMANTIC IMAGES EMANATING FROM HIS INCREDIBLY FERTILE IMAGINATION. THESE IMAGES WILL STAND FOREVER, UNIQUE AND / STRONG, BLENDING INTO A FANTASY WORLD NEVER WITNESSED BEFORE OR SINCE."
At the bottom there are two more paragraphs: "THIS POSTHUMOUS PRINT IS CERTIFIED BY THE MAXFIELD PARRISH FAMILY TRUST AND THE ILLUSTRATORS / GALLERY AS THE FIRST AUTHORIZED PRINTING OF ANY WORK CREATED BY THE ARTIST SINCE HIS PASSING ON MARCH 30, / 1966. THIS CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEES THAT ALL PRINTS IN THIS LIMITED EDITION HAVE BEEN PUB- / LISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DETAILED DATA DESCRIBED HEREIN. PUBLISHED AND COPYRIGHTED BY ARTSHOWS / & PRODUCTS, CORP." Then there's a printed symbol: "This art print is reproduced from the original painting by Maxfield Parrish / by offset lithography using fade - resistant inks in 200-line screen, printed in four colors. Furthermore, / a dull varnish has been added to enhance the color fidelity to the artist's original painting. The image / size is 12 by 16 inches, with one thousand serial number prints in the limited edition and 50 num- / berd printer's proofs. The publication date is March 1993. The image is printed on Warren Lustro Offset / Enamel, Dull Finish, Bases 100, text stock. Printed by the Stinehour Press in Lunenburg, VT in the / northeast kingdom, USA. " Below that: "MAXFIELD PARRISH. Aquamarine."
