Quilt. Made by Eliza Gooden (1804-1854), Milford, NH; 1826. The cut-out corner design features a center field of a diamond grid pattern filled with various stylized floral motifs. The side drops are quilted with verses: "God is our sun, daily light / Our joy and safety brings / Our feeble flesh lies safe at night / Beneath his shady wings," and "Thou spread'st the curtains of the night / Great guardian of my sleeping hours / Thy sovereign word restore the light / And quickens all my drousy (sic) powers." The bottom drop is quilted with the inscription: "Eliza Gooden / Milford Oct 1826." The batting is wool, and the quilting thread, worked at 8 to 9 stitches per inch, is a creamy yellow worsted.
