Doll comforter pieced with 30 (arranged 6 x 5) blocks measuring approximately 4.5" square. The blocks are pieced with a Four Patch design, with each patch pieced in a Four Patch on point (so there are four Four Patches in each block), and sashed with gray and white woven gingham pieced out with blue and white gingham. The blocks are pieced with various dress calicoes from the 1870s and 1880s, including double pinks, madder, and half mourning prints, along with beige, blue, brown, red, and orange prints. The back of the comforter is pieced of two different calicoes, one printed with a design imitating weaving, the other a floral print. The edges are bound with red bias tape. It is tied in a grid pattern in the center of each block and along the sashing with white cotton string knotted over tufts of red, chartreuse, and green wool yarns. The piecing is both hand- and machine-stitched.
