Quilt. Uneven Nine Patch design. Pieced in solid red and solid white cotton, straight set, with the colors of the blocks alternating. The blocks are approximately 4.75 inches square. Two different Turkey red fabrics are used. Border design of white/red/white stripes, with the corners stitched straight, not mitred. Thin cotton batting. Quilting design of parallel diagonal lines in the border, and X's through the blocks; also a straight line through the center of the rectangular pieces of each block. White cotton thread at 7 to 8 stitches per inch. Plain white cotton muslin backing. Bound with strips of white cotton on the straight grain. The maker employed the selvedges in at least two sides of the binding strips, so that it looks like woven tape, rather than strips of cloth.
