Description:

Bust. Life size, of J. Stephens Abbot (1804-1871) by Nicola Cantalamessa Papotti (1831-1910), 1873. Marble. Man draped in classical manner: head turned almost imperceptibly toward subjects's left; back hollowed below shoulders; separate circular base, nine and seven-eights in diameter, secured using a dowel joint with separate wooden pin. Pupils and iris of eyes defined. Inscribed, in upper case letters, on reverse:"Cre Nla Cantalamessa. Papotti / Roma. 1873."
