- In a letter to the Society, Mary C. Brummer writes, "There is a white pitcher of what I call china ware, it will hold about two quarts of water, probably, which will give you an idea of the size of it...It belonged to my aunt, who lived in St. Johnsbury, Vt. and from my childhood until she died, I had always seen it in her home."
Mary Abigail Carleton (the donor; b. 1872 Haverhill, N.H.), was the daughter of Chester Merrill Carleton (1831-1907, b. Haverhill, NH) and Martha Maria Bacon (1839-1906, b. Wardsboro, VT) of Haverhill, NH. Martha Bacon's family resided in the area of Putney, VT, and included 7 siblings. Perhaps one of Martha's siblings is the aunt that the donor was referring to. - Credit Line:
- Gift of Mary C. Brummer
