From the collection of Mary C. Emery of Amesbury, MA, and Fred P. Emery of Pembroke, NH. This bequest of over 200 items from the Emery home includes both items that were inherited and items that were collected. No provenance provided on this piece.
The VP maker's mark has been attributed both to the mid-18th-century Veuve Perrin factory of Marseilles, France, and to painter P. F. Vreeswijk who worked at the Porceleyne Fles factory in Delft, Holland, 1885-1934. Curator Wes Balla determined that the painting style was late 19th century, and therefore concurred with the later interpretation.
