- Description:
- Soup plate. Whiteware earthenware with light blue underglaze transfer print. Circular plate with slightly faceted edge (16 sides). Base ring present. Central scene depicts a mountainous village with a man and a woman in the foreground. The woman is standing on a road and the man is sitting on some rocks beside her. There is a large tree to their left. The village is in the middle ground in a valley and there are high peaked mountains behind the village. The rim decoration includes ferns or moss on a ground of crackle-like geometric shapes. There are several marks on the reverse. In underglaze blue, upper case letters: "CATSKILL MOSS / MEREDITH / C.C.". In underglaze blue, diamond with a circle on top: the center of the diamond has "Rd"; the bottom of the diamond has the number "6"; left corner has "A"; top has the letter "C"; the right side possibly has the number "16"; and the circle has "IV" inside it (this makes up the mark for earthenware made on Dec. 16, 1844). There are also two paper labels attached to the reverse, all in hand writing. The first says: "BARTLETT,VI,P.125 / EWO3 / Rare / Ridgeway". The second label reads: "Antiques / Aug. 1932".
