.01 Buckle, cast ferrous frame with blued and plain steel fittings. Height: 2.91", width: 3.05", depth: 1.13", weight: 2.31 oz. Repetitive fanciful floral decoration with leaves and petals with repeat of 0.05" to frame. Small, very fine, double-beaded edge on interior of frame. Voids between repetitive decorations around outside edge. Small, recessed, polished round surfaces that are part of design, similar to steel rhinestone except they are recessed and polished. Rectangular tongue with blued and polished surface on front and back. Chape rectangular with round corners and blued and polished front and back surfaces. Polished spike assembly, hinged on end and in front of chape.
.02 Copper alloy and steel buckle. Height: 3.9", width: 3.06", depth: 1.23", weight: 2.48oz. Frame curved rectangular shape with angled corners. Front surface somewhat rounded. Tarnish on front of frame is as if it were silver at one time. Back and side surfaces of frame tarnished copper alloy. Shape rectangular with smooth front and back surfaces. One small spike missing. Slightly enlarged and rounded outer end to tongue. Front and back surfaces smooth. Additional cross-member parallel to pin and third member between the two parallel surfaces. Separate double-spike assembly that pivots on pin and rests on top of tongue frame. A couple decorative arms between spikes to this separate assembly.
.03 Buckle, convex rectangle cast steel frame with very rounded corners. Height: 2.41", width: 2.99", depth: 1.2", weight: 1.71 oz. Simple, fanciful, floral decoration on front surface. Three small circles in each corner and at ends of pin. Simple chased, stems, and possible leaves. Tongue slightly curved with small, diamond-shaped bar between spikes. Chape slightly trapezoidal with two small spikes on outside edge. Also, slightly curved.
.04 Buckle, brass and steel. Height: 2.34", width: 3.02", depth: 1.23", weight: 2.26 oz. Frame convex rectangle with slightly-rounded corners. Rounded front surface to cross-section of frame. May have been silver on front of frame due to color of tarnish. A couple, bright, small silver spots on front of frame. Also, worn area on one frame member on chape end. Tongue consists of two long spikes with diamond-shape cross-member. Rounded cap that flares slightly at pin end for chape. One of spikes in chape shorter than other. Slightly-arched section at base of chape where tongue rotates on pin. Small paper label on back of frame with typed "9/52".
.05 Buckle, cast steel frame and steel tongue and chape. Height: 2.38", width: 2.99", depth: 1.12", weight: 1.50 oz. Frame convex rectangle with rounded corners and appears to be soft, ferrous alloy. Central section over pins contains oval in each side. Another oval at each end. Some circular areas at end of ovals. Design fanciful, simple, floral pattern. Chaste petals in each oval. Chaste, concave circles in center of each oval. Rounded sections contain circles and larger leaves. All of decorative surfaces done with polished tools to create bright and shiny surfaces as a result of impact of tools. Smaller circles contain four or five flat surfaces to create rhinestone-like reflection when they were new. Tongue consists of straight spikes with roughly diamond-shaped crossbar. Chape trapezoidal and had blued and polished surface when new. Some evidence of tongue having plain polished surface.
.06 Buckle, brass, silver, and steel. Height: 2.23", width: 2.92", depth: 1.29", weight: 2.315 oz. Convex, rectangular shape with clipped corners. Each of sides elongated, narrow oval. Sides of frame show brass color. Front with silver coating. Fanciful floral decoration on surface of frame. Simple blossoms and leaves on stippled background. Very fine, undulating border of inside and outside edge of frame. Not sure how much of design on surface was cast and how much done by hand. Couple of short spikes to tongue, tip of one broken off. Chape trapezoidal. Cast, brass cross bar in front of chape as part of frame. Four small holes on inside edge of frame at chape end that angle towards back and exit in three, shallow slots on back surface. Two additional holes either incomplete or contain polishing compound.
.07 Buckle, brass and steel. Height: 2.12", width: 2.53", depth: 0.85", weight: 0.996 oz. Convex, rectangular brass frame with slightly-clipped corners. A small, undulating design with fine grooves to outer edges, chased around edges. Plain, rectangular frame surface on inner edge. A series of slots and diamond-shaped cross-members between inner and outer edge of frame. Slight, concave depression in each one of these small cross members. Plain, top surfaces polished. Tongue simple blued spike assembly meeting at one point where it pivots on pin. Chape trapezoidal with concave ends. Chape and tongue surface smooth, but not polished.
.08 Buckle, steel and pewter. Height: 2.24", width: 2.88", depth: 1.02", weight: 1.419 oz. Convex oval. Center of frame rectangular. Outside edge consists of ovals with fanciful floral elements at their junctions between them. Three on each side, and two at each end. Blossoms between them containing four petals. Sides of oval connected by short oval "leaves". Voids in each of ovals and in spaces between them and narrow, inner frame. Tongue consists of two long spikes that meet at pin. Chape trapezoidal with two spikes. Steel parts finished and smooth, but not polished.
.09 Buckle, brass. Height: 1.84", width: 2.42", depth: 0.65", weight: 0.974 oz. Frame convex rectangle with rounded corners. Design cast into frame surface is small, raised X-shapes with fine bead on inside edge. Tongue two-spike shape that meets at pin. Chape rounded cap with two inner spikes. Bottom edge of chape raised slightly at pin where tongue rotates on pin. Pin also brass. Tongue and chape surface smooth, but not polished.
.10 Buckle, steel and brass/copper. Height: 1.42", width: 2.08", depth: 0.78", weight: 0.992 oz. Convex, rectangular frame. Surface of frame slightly concave. Serrated edges on inside and outside of frame. Small, chased circles around edge interspersed with small chased lines with serrations. Serrations slightly curved. Centers of curved lines face each other and flare at ends. A more copper appearance to front surface of frame than the typical brass alloy. Brass tongue consists of two spikes, joined together at pin. Chape trapezoidal with slightly-bulging sides, also with two spikes. Chape slightly curved at its base where it pivots on pin. Steel pin.
.11 Buckle, steel and silver (?). Height: 1.51", width: 1.16", depth: 0.22", weight: 0.36 oz. Slightly convex, rectangular frame. Broadly undulating surface on frame rails between corners. Fine lines between raised portions of rail. Two incised lines along inside and outside edges of each rail to corner blocks. Corners slightly raised with a fanciful design consisting a circle, three dots, and three short lines stamped into material. Two straight tongue spikes. Shallow oval shape base with single thick end that flares to sides with two narrow oval sections for chape. Chape and spikes finely finished and polished and back of frame smooth.
.12 Buckle, silver (?), brass and steel. Height 1.65", width: 1.04", depth: 0.14", weight: 0.462 oz. Convex, rectangular frame. Fine undulating groove along outside edge. Fine serrations on inside edge. Fine scribed lines perpendicular to each rail that meet at mitre line in corner. Surface of rails appear to be silver, but smooth brass on back. Two simple spikes to tongue. Two curved lines that meet and then flare into two narrow, oval lobes for chape.
.13 Buckle, brass and steel. Height: 1.34", width: 1.16", depth: 0.16", weight: 0.334 oz. Roughly D-shaped. Spikes extend onto straight edge. Chape under curved edge. Chape two curved arms that meet, then flare out to two shorter arms. Surface of frame quite pitted. Steel surfaces somewhat tarnished and corroded.
.14 Buckle, brass, steel, possibly silver. Height: 1.84", width: 1.13", depth: 0.15", weight: 0.446 oz. Elongated oval shape. Very small oval, side-by-side around outside edge with narrow portion near center. Undulating ribbon design around center open. Ovals may have silver on them. Inner ribbon certainly brass alloy color. Two steel spikes in tongue. Chape consists of two curved arms that meet, then flare again in two arms. Chape and spikes smooth and may have been polished.
