Each corner has an eight-pointed star in indigo fabric, pieced with brown print fabric. Two corners are cut off. Pencil inscription in top left corner, written by Ellen Webster: "This is the pattern of a quilt made by Abraham Lincoln's mother. I saw its reproduction, done in light rose and white and sent to the Eastern States Exposition in 1936. The stars were of two shades of rose but the squares used the darker rose. Both shades of rose were delicate in color and of plain material. These colors made the quilt lacking in character. The workmanship and quilting were excellent. This is one square of the quilt and all squares were alike."
