Description:
Quilt pattern, "Winding Blades." Machine-printed checked yellow with white cotton fabric. Approximately, 8.2" blocks with 2" sashing. Blocks have four fabric rectangles placed to form diamond in center of block, rectangle ends are 1/2-square triangles creating "point" on blades. Pencil marks indicate quilting, in two of the blocks, vertical and horizontal lines are indicated with intersecting lines indicated in middle (same quilting concept in sashing, i.e. horizontal and vertical with intersecting lines delineating cornerstones); remaining blocks do not indicate intersecting lines in the middle, i.e. marks indicate each block quartered with progressively smaller 90 degree angles out to each corner; fabric glued to pencil drawn pattern on discolored off-white poster board. Handwritten notes in pencil above pattern: "Winding Blades. Very old pattern. Mrs. Justin McClure has a very old one - taken from stuffing in old arm chairs. / Mrs. Joseph Keyes has a very beautiful one in this pattern belonging to Mr. Liba Conant." First of two patterns (a,b), second on reverse (see Object ID 1968.059.035 b).
