- Description:
- Quilt pattern, "Freedom Quilt Square." Machine-printed solid and figured cotton fabrics of varying color and shapes form four distinctly patterned blocks. First block (top left) comprised of figured red and dark blue fabric, small red fabric squares (0.2 inches) at NW,NE,SW,SE corners of interior most square (approx 1.1 inches). Four larger squares (0.7 inches) sit at NW,NE,SW,SE corner of interior white square. Offset triangles of red and dark blue fabric form a diamond around this square. Two triangles of same size mirror triangles at N,S,E,W (red triangle above blue, blue above red). Externally pointed larger triangles form corners of block framed with border of red fabric. Second block (top right) comprised of nine 3' x 3' red with white figured fabric squares. Center square has four small fabric squares with bottom corners touching. Middle squares consist of four triangles (two figured, two white), figured triangles touch at peak and point N,S (mid squares on vertical) and E,W (on horizontal). Corner squares are flutter wheel pattern. In third block (lower left), red figured fabric forms"+" that intersects block. Squares around "+" have interior red figured fabric square, around this square are four black figured triangles pointed N,S,E,W and four red figured triangles pointed NE, SE, NW, SW. Fourth block (lower right) an 8-point star shape in middle made from alternating red with white and green figured fabric diamonds. At points, bordered by four yellow rectangles (not a solid border, rectangles touch only at bottom corners). Nine black figured fabric triangles form square around yellow rectangles. At peak, black triangles touch external border comprised of four green figured fabric rectangles (again only touch at bottom). A black figured fabric square sits inside the green border at each corner (interior corner of each square touches corner of square formed by black triangles). Fabric glued to pencil drawn patterns on discolored off-white poster board. Handwritten notes in pencil at top of poster board. Word(s) in top line appear cut off. Legible writing, "squares of the Freedom Quilt / Each square the size represented." Represented size is 9"x9."
