Sitter has curly gray hair, gray moustache and goatee, and blue eyes. He is wearing a white shirt with standing collar, black bow tie, black coat, waistcoat, and trousers, gold shirt pin, and gold watch fob on trousers. He is sitting in an armchair with wooden arms and stile; red velvet upholstered back and arm. Table with red table cloth on right; books on table: one blue, two brown covers with gilding on spines. Graduated black and green background; swirls of light brown, red, and white paint right. Signed lower right: "U.D. Tenney / 1889 -". Paper label with typed inscription on frame rabbet: "John M. Corse / ? ? ? / Corse". Gilded gesso over wood frame with exterior floral and ribbon molding, floral and arch cove, foliate and floral scrolling interior trim.
