- Accompanied by a typescript note dated May 14, 1941, from Dr. Henry O. Smith regarding the design of the button. He said the design was presented at a meeting of the Medical Society in 1906: "...the green and white are the colors of Dartmouth College and the center is the color of the American Medical Association." Although it was supposed to be the permanent badge of the Society, the design was replaced after just three years. But an original button was found and copied for use during the Society's sesquicentennial in 1941.
