Description:
Silhouette. Portrait of Mrs. Chandler, by John T. Fiske, 1886. Pencil on paper. Neck-length profile of a woman, facing right, wearing collared garments and her hair up, possibly with a hair ornament at the back of her head. The very back of the subject's head is on a separate piece of paper attached to the main one. Appears to be glued on. Pencil inscription lower center: "Mrs. Chandler / Exeter / 1886". Also an inscription below right from her hair ornament: "Mrs C- / 3-". On reverse there is an address written in ink, at right angle to everything on front: "Mr J.T. Fiske / 213 N. Main St. Concord N.H." The "Fiske", "Main", and "N.H." are slightly smeared, apparently from water making the ink run. There is a blue stamp next to the "N.H.", oriented upside down relative to the image on front. Stamp says "U.S.POSTAGE / ONE CENT". The image on the stamp is an engraving of Ben Franklin. Unframed.
