- Description:
- Punch and Judy puppet. Wood and textile. Carved wood head, exaggerated female face. Bonnet that surrounds face with portions that extend up towards back, creating higher peak around edge of face. Some carving and modeling in bonnet to make it look more like textile with gentle folds and creases. Hint of brown hair on forehead. Exaggerated face with long, hooked nose, big cheeky grin, and protruding chin. Painted eyebrows, painted eyelashes, blue eyes with dark pupil, little red dots. Red lips and white, painted teeth. Surface of nose and eye spots on chin worn. Some evidence of some pink highlights to perhaps exaggerate folds in face a little bit. Knot in wood underneath chin, carved to be part of bonnet ribbon. Bottom of head swells, and horizontal brown and white, striped dress gathered under chin over bulge. Narrow, red trim at waist of dress and near bottom hem. Sleeves same striped material with red trim at cuffs. Two painted hands that extend from ends of sleeves with slightly delineated fingers and separate thumb. Painted off-white to imitate flesh of Caucasian. Tapered spaces insides of hands and of head for fingers to go into. Rudimentary sewn legs inside dress, attached to and support wooden leg sections. Legs simple, of slightly-rounded taper, terminating in separate foot piece with some glued decoration to imitate flat shoe. Only about a third of leg protrudes below bottom of dress. On back, dress same textile, but no trim at bottom. Brown element with dark edges alternates with white stripe pattern. Lace around collar at top of dress. A few small splits in dress from some hard-wear areas.
