Description:

Decanter Set with three glass bottles. Elaborate silver stand shaped to hold three decanters, each in its own vertical cylinder edged with grape vine, leaves, and fruit, in high relief. The three cylinders are all decorated in the same way with six arch window-like openings with etched checkerboard design covering the entire cylinder. Three high relief feet formed of vines and leaves, which also extend around cylinder bases. Tall central standard surmounted by leafy carrying loop, which is secured with a thumb screw. Three tall cut glass decanters, cut in pattern of circles and ovals on sides, and long loops on necks. Double pouring lips top each neck. Tall cut, pointed stoppers. Stand marked on base: "Rogers Smith & Co / Hartford, Conn" in the form of a circle with Hartford in center and Conn. at base. Also stamped on bottom is number "14" and letters "JB".

Bequeathed by Warren Tracy Billings (1868-1933), of Gilford and Laconia, NH. No information given as to its provenance.
Decanter set has a maker's mark of Rogers Smith & Co., Hartford, CT. Perhaps this set came from Billings' mother's, Lillieore D. Tracy (1851-1912) or father's Emilius G. Billings (1845-1871) families, both of whom had long family histories that were geographically close to Hartford, CT. Billings' parents married in 1866; his mother's family was from Vernon, CT, and his father's family was from Longmeadow, MA.
