- Description:
- Wallpaper, 36" strips, three pieces. a. Overall background color applied to paper that bleeds over onto edges, medium-tan. Behind everything on background, pattern of slightly irregular squares in a dark tan color. Squares, very fine line borders with small dot in middle of each one. Squares slightly irregular, side-by-side. Horizontal lines not perfectly regular. Vertical lines tend to lean slightly to left. These are underneath all of printed pattern. Three columns of large gilded medallions with same painted scenes in center of each one: small, white house, lavender background, stream, green fields, and trees. Variations between them that seem to vary with printing process where more or less pigment applied and in some areas, pigment smudged a little bit. It could be that there are slight variances in the print roller so that vertically, there are slight differences in the details in the scenes inside medallions. Gilt swags connecting medallions. Vertical repeat of pattern: 12.5". Pattern shifted making medallions alternate from left to right. Vertical shift approximately: 6.4". Horizontal spacing between column centers: 6". Medallions delineated by gold and dark brown, printed patterns. Center of medallion, horizontal oval with slight concave ends. At top of medallion, 3 flowers on stem with some smaller blossoms on either side. Bow shape to center below blossoms and part of top edge of medallion. Gold border then extends to either side with small blossoms and leaves. Below center of medallion, symmetrical geometric shapes that extend downward. Medallion sits on dark, red/brown background which is behind edges, blossoms, and decorations. Beyond that, another irregular background of dark-gray tan color. Swags that lead from medallions are attached at sides of medallion central seam. Below seam, two other swags that lead down and to adjacent medallions. Upper swags lead upward to lower portion of adjacent medallions. Behind medallions, symmetrical series of off-white, vertical lines. They also have a few dark tan lines mixed in symmetrically. Gold series of diamonds in band 0.8" wide that act as vertical border for left and right edges of medallion. These have connected diamonds with Fleur de Lis in center. Some dark tan parallel lines at edges and diamonds that fill in band. Diamond repeat about 0.9" high. On right edge printed in green, all caps, italic-like font: "IMPERIAL GLENS-FALLS". Also numeral "3" in a regular font. "1122" that match font of printed letters. Groups of nine colored dots along edge that repeat about every 12.5". The border with all the printing: 0.65" wide. This is where there is where there is no matching design, but is a series of very small squares that overlap into this area. On opposite side, non-design areas: 0.7" wide. Small squares extend halfway into this area. This side also has the color registration dots. Nine dots in a row then single dot next to it at one end. Gold, dark reddish brown, dark tan, blue-green, medium-tan, vibrant green, lavender, light blue, and white, all on lighter tan basic background.
B & C strips of border (1 double, 1 single), larger scenes in middle, alternating with landscapes with gilt urns in foreground. Two shades of green and dark brown.
b. Fragment. Background under design, series of elongated hexagons, delineated by small dots along their edges. Horizontally, approximately 6 hexagons per inch as they alternate between their matching edges. Fairly uniform in their rows and columns and extend close to paper edge to edge. At bottom edge of design, gold band, then dark reddish band which blends into darker green and then lighter green. Then another gold band, then series of small gold discs with scalloped edge along top in dark brown. At top, gold band, dark green, then light green, another gold band, then many small gold discs. These create top and bottom edges. Between them, medallions similar to "a". Central seam slightly large that ""a" in width and height. Floral decoration in gold at top of medallion and along top edge of medallion, similar to "a". Bottom edge of medallion and central design shortened quite a bit. Central swag leading from concave end of medallion to a gold urn. At urn, repeat of same swag leading to next medallion. Horizontal repeat: 15.9" Medallion, background of two shades of green and dark red, leaves and perhaps tree limbs around top edge and partway through urn between medallions. Over urn, section of sky with blue and white. Below medallions and urns, background of dark brown over dark tan overall background tan color. Design height approximately 9.1" for single border. Same border design repeated upside down above this one. Top edge to top edge with small space between overall design height of the two borders: 18".On bottom edge, non-design area: 0.6" wide. Contains some of hexagon background. Also, nine color registration dots that repeat every 15.7". Small white circles with colors in or on them. Some of white appears to be printed over color. Top border, not part of design: 0.65" wide. Contains some of elongated hexagon pattern. Printing in dark red, in a serif font with italic slant to it: "Imperial Glens + Falls." "2". Group of numbers: "2122". Series of nine circles of color registration plus additional one at one end of group. Repeats every 15.7". Background color bled over onto back of sheet.
