- Description:
- Wallpaper, 18th century fragments. Medallion design, blue and gold on pale yellow background. Two pieces. "4a" Blue medallion in upper portion of paper. Medallion: 3 blossoms at top with several radiating leaves around top edges. Two slightly larger blossoms near and below center. Portion U-shaped design element near bottom with some sort of a drop shape off bottom. Two leaves and two cirlicue stems radiating from sides at bottom of design. In orange/tan design, large leaves, some smaller leaves inside curlicue stems. Part of larger tan/orange design. Vertical overlap in center.Overlap about 1.3" wide. In right-hand piece, seam between sheets of paper that overlaps about 0.3". On left side, near bottom, small fragment of blue design pasted on surface of the orange/tan design. Does not seem to align with anything. On back of sheet, piece that is in the vertical overlap has approximately 6 parallel, slightly yellow lines extending from its top to bottom. Lines most prominent near center of sheet, vertically. Their strength variable from top to bottom. "4b" Wallpaper fragment. Corresponds in design with "4a". Vertical seam that overlaps 1.3". On back, portions of yellow lines, parallel to vertical seam. These are under overlap of front sheet, but on back surface. At left side, sheet folded over on back about 1.6". Appears to be blank edge about 0.3" wide. Only a background color but no blue or orange/tan color on back. Horizontal sheet seam in larger piece. Overlap about 0.4". In raking light, front surface, some evidence that paper is laid paper due to the many parallel lines that would be wire marks.
