"Frozen Charlotte" dolls were named for the unfortunate character made legendary in the ballad "Fair Charlotte," sung by William Lorenzo Carter. Charlotte's skin turned porcelain white as she froze to death during a long sleigh ride with her beau. These dolls were sometimes used as cake decoration.
