- Surveyor's Chain. Measuring chain of iron with loops at each end of straight pieces, which measure one link (7.92 inches), joined by small ring between each rod. Large ring at each end of entire chain which measures 50 links or 11 yards (one half chain), 2 rods. Three small iron tabs, first on link 13, second between links 25 and 26, and third on link 35.
