Paper

H-5.5 W-6.375 inches
Provenance:
Painted by Hannah Leslie (1810-1830) of Brookline, NH, when about 13 years old. Apparently acquired from the Leslie family by an Amherst dealer. Prior to the identification of Hannah Leslie as from Brookline, this picture was thought to represent a mill at New Ipswich, NH. It now seems likely that this is a somewhat fanciful representation of one of the many mills operating in Brookline, some of which are known to have been located near Meeting House Hill.

Eaton Clapp purchased the painting from Mrs. Helen C. Wiggin of Amherst, NH.
