Rectangular in shape and similar to the slip seat of a chair. The front and back rails of the frame are rectangular in cross-section, but have slightly downcurving upper and lower edges which form a continuous curve, with saber legs at each end. The upholstered top rests on the side rails which are lower than the front and back rails and are rounded on their exposed outer surface. Needlepoint upholstery having a central band of large scrolled design in yellow on red background. Upholstery is a replacement. Removable top held in position with one wire nail which projects from top into hole on side rail. Each side rail has three holes suggesting top was formerly screwed to side rails. No corresponding holes in top as presently upholstered. Triangular corner blocks, probably walnut. Frame of removable top white pine. Heavy paper tacked over underside of removable top at center of which is glued a handwritten paper label reading: "1836. / Cynthia Morgan Thorne. / (Her Footstool.) Pembroke. / Born - Dec. 9 - 1804.
