Landscape painting, Afternoon in Autumn, White Mountains, by Jasper Francis Cropsey (1823-1900), 1856. Oil on canvas. Foreground lake and felled trees with a small bird on branch. Foreground left, grassy bank with autumn foliage. Tall tree, middle ground left, with brown foliage. Waterfall in the center background; blue building left of falls. Red and yellow tinted sky. Signed lower right: "J.F.C. / 1856". Pencil inscription on reverse of canvas reads: "Afternoon in Autumn / White Mountains / by J.F. Cropsey". Gilded gesso over wood frame with molded edges.
