- From the hat shop of Benjamin Kimball (1771-1818), son of Dea. John Kimball who prior to 1795 bought a strip of land 31 feet wide off the south edge of Taverner Hannaford's homestead, built a shop and began his trade, on North Main Street in Concord, NH. Shortly thereafter his marriage to a Canterbury girl caused him to purchase additional land north of the shop and build the beautiful house known as the Kimball-Roby house. This has now been torn down to make way for the IBM building. By 1840 the shop was occupied by other parties for a bakery. It was later moved to Appletown and used for a private school.
