Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Frederick Goodrich Robbins (1893-1974) studied art in Philadelphia and lived in various cities in California during the 1930s before relocating to Westborough, Massachusetts, by 1940. The census that year listed him as an artist in the etching industry. He soon relocated to New Hampshire, first to Alexandria by 1942, where he registered for the draft, and then to New Hampton by the time of the 1950 US census. He focused his art on the rural people and landscapes surrounding him. Prior to his death in 1974, Robbins gave 67 copper etching plates to the New Hampton School, which has periodically commissioned new prints.
