- Textile
Canvas - Dimensions:

- Provenance:
- The donor, Mary Sanborn Whitelaw, was the great-granddaughter of Daniel Burleigh (1777-1855) and the granddaughter of Sarah Coffin Burleigh (1816-1881).
Daniel Burleigh was a farmer in Sanbornton, NH.
According to family tradition, this portrait was thought to have been painted in 1834. However, based on other Ingalls portraits, this portrait appears to have been painted in the 1840s and it exhibits none of the characteristics of the earlier period.
The "A. Weeks" whose name appears on the reverse of frame was either Agnes Burleigh Weeks, Sarah Coffin Burleigh's daughter, or Agnes' husband, Asa Weeks, possibly early owners of the portrait. The fact that they had no children would explain the portrait's descent in another line.
