Provenance:
Dr. Green's youngest child, Clarissa Dwight, married Dr. Thomas Chadbourne, who also was a practicing physician of Concord for nearly fifty years. Dr. and Mrs. Chadbourne were the grandparents of the donor, Anna Berry Smith.

Peter Green was born October 1, 1745, in Lancaster, MA. Graduated from Harvard, 1766. Began medical practice in Lancaster. Married Martha Clark, who died in 1770, a year after marriage. Married Elizabeth, daughter of Colonel John Bulkley of Groton, MA, and in 1772 moved to Concord, NH, where she died in August, 1774. His third wife was Ruth, daughter of Samuel Ayer of Haverhill. He died March 31, 1828, age 83, after 56 years of practice in Concord.

He was one of the first members of the New Hampshire Medical Society (and may have been one of the founding members) and honorary member of the Massachusetts Medical Society. His practice was distinguished for great simplicity of medicines; he was moderate in his charges and neglectful of their collection: a temperate man in an intemperate age.
