- Description:
- Adz or unfinished gouge. Medium gray stone. Rectangular shape with tapering sides. One end rounded. Other end tapers to an irregular, slightly pointed end. One flat surface which curves downward to front edge. Other side, almost hemispherical in cross section. It becomes thinner, tapers to curved front edge to create cutting surface or edge. This curved side becomes slightly thicker and more narrow, then tapers to more slightly pointed back end. Slight rib on curved side that runs down center, then curves off to one corner of front cutting edge. This rib may be part of inclusion in stone. Appears to be other light-colored inclusions in stone running longitudinal direction. On flat side, big old chips missing from one side. Some small grooves at edge of chips which may be the point of impact that caused them to flake off. Outside surface, medium brown coloration to it on curved side. On flat side, some thinner and more irregular brown color.
