- Description:
- Piece of wood from the screw sloop USS Kearsarge. Roughly triangular, flat piece, with irregular sides. Several cracks in the narrower end. No finished surfaces visible. Grain distorted. Paper label affixed to one side with hand-written note: "A bit of the 'Kearsarge' [Kearsarge underlined] / which fought and / captured the / Alabama" [Alabama underlined]. Belonged to Edward Hill.
