Object Name:
Tongs
Object ID:
1972.511
Description:
Lazy tongs, iron. Pantograph-style extending arms. Six sheet iron sections joined together to create device. At one end of each arm is flat piece of iron that then turns on its side to form finger loop. In front of loop is shaft that has pivot point at its middle section and at its extreme end. The two fingerloop shafts are connected to dual, plain shaft sections that are pivoted at their centers and extreme ends. Intermediary shafts attached to dual end shafts that pivot at one end and their center. The extreme end shafts turn and form two small pads that are bent to touch each other at the extreme end. Tool activated by moving finger rings closer or further away from each other, which then extends or retracts shaft and decreases distance between end pads. File and tool marks on sides of all pieces. Pivot points are all flush. Finger rings slightly different in diameter, but well crafted.
