Measure, Dry

Object Name:
Measure, Dry
Object ID:
1966.047.36
Description:
Measure, dry. Wood. One bushel measure. Wood hoop, 0.19" thick near rim. Overlapped, with steel tacks used at joint to hold it together. Appears as if wood was longer than finished product because of cut mark on outside edge of overlap and beveled edge of wood that coincide. Top edge not uniform at overlap area. Three circular-sawn boards make up bottom, which are nailed in place around edge. Crack from edge to edge in central board. Bottom board stock a little over 0.4" thick. Outside and inside surfaces are fairly rough, as if wood perhaps rived or partially rived as opposed to being sawn and plain. Black writing on outside: "Delaney / [No 1] [...]" Beyond that: "Boston". Black staining on inside bottom surface. Single round-headed tack on outside near one edge.
