- Description:
- Kettle. Pewter. Kettle has removable lid, attached split handle on top, attached spout cap, and built-in strainer. Body form is jar-like, with a narrow base, sides flaring outward, then constricting at top to form a wide mouth opening. Spout, which is cast and applied, is square in cross-section; there is a small spout cap attached with a chain. Handle is made of 2 brass arches which are hinged to the top of the kettle; when not engaged, the two halves of the handle lay flat, but they form a single unit when brought to an upright position. There are also brass button rest stops on either side of the handle. Removable dish-shaped lid has a red enameled knob in center. Base is slightly arched. Ridge marks visible on interior. Exterior finish has appearance of concentric lines (though not as regular as would be expected from lathe turning), which are interrupted with perpendicular lines around the spout. No maker's mark seen.
