- Description:
- Gavel, made of wood from USS Kearsarge. Turned wood; medium-brown handle and head that appear to be oak. Head turned with slightly convex ends. From end is a slight band at edge of turned end. Three small concave grooves, another wider band and another concave groove and then another band in center with a shallow center line turned in middle. Design is duplicated in opposite pattern. Near left edge of nameplate are two small holes in adjacent band with a circular indentation around holes. Silver nameplate is 2.25" x 0.5". This is very tarnished at left edge. Engraved "KEARSARGE / FROM L E. Glidden."
