Provenance:
One of a small collection of objects related to Meshech Weare (1713-1786) or his immediate family. These items were owned by Everett F. Goodhue (1883/5-1953) of Nashua, NH, uncle of the donor, Allen Lane Goodhue (1906-1980). Everett was the great-great-great-grandson of Meshech Weare. The bodkin had been sewn to a paper, with the following handwritten note: "Silver Tape-needle which belonged to Mrs. Meshech Weare." Hence the "MW" on this piece is believed to have stood for Mehitable Wainwright Weare (1719-1781), second wife of Meshech Weare; they married in 1746.
