- This ladle was made during Daniel Webster's (1782-1852) residence in Boston where he moved in 1816, and later used at the Marshfield home he bought in 1832. The ladle was said to have been given by Caroline White Webster (1811-1886), widow of Daniel Webster's son, Fletcher (1813-1862) who resided at the Marshfield home during and after her father-in-law's death, to Daniel's friend, New Hampshire politician, Napoleon Bonaparte Bryant (1825-1902), as a memorial in 1873. Bryant presented the ladle to his son, Charles Phillips Bryant (1850-1913) on Charles's 50th birthday. Charles was born in Bristol, NH., later residing in Milwaukee, WI, and Rumford, ME. The ladle was next inherited by Charles Bradford Barton (1873-1963); Barton was married to Mary Ellen Bryant (1875-19 ), youngest daughter of Charles Phillips Bryant; they resided in Berlin, NH. The ladle was next inherited by Barton's eldest daughter, Margaret Barton (1899-1994), who donated it to the New Hampshire Historical Society.
