- Combination gold pen and pencil. Round barrel with two slide mechanisms. The slide closest to the working tip extends, with a pen nib attached. Pen tip marked "G E.M / SMITH / NEW YORK / 1849". The slide closest to the top of pen/pencil extends to pencil section. Decorative gold head with a red stone set into it. Head unscrews to reveal compartment for storing lead. One piece of lead in compartment.
