Material:

Silver
Dimensions:
H-2 W-14 D-14.3 inches
Provenance:
Said to have been owned by Theodore Atkinson (1697-1779). With no heirs, most of Theodore Atkinson's possessions were bequeathed to his cousin's son, George King (1730/34-1788), on the condition that he change his name to Atkinson. Then bequeathed by Susanna Sparhawk Atkinson (1750-1796; Mrs. George King Atkinson) to their nephew, William King Atkinson (1765-1820), in 1796.
Most of the Atkinson property was next passed down to William's daughter, Frances Atkinson Freeman (1797-1883), Mrs. Asa Freeman). An 1851 letter from Asa Freeman to Samuel Drake states that the Freeman's are in possession of the salver. The salver then is said to have been owned by Frances and Asa's daughter, Sarah Huntington Freeman Marble (1825-1854) of Concord, NH, who died young, then her daughter, Miss Frances Atkinson Marble (1851-1911) of Bridgeport, CT, and lastly by a first cousin of Frances's, Miss Martha W. Pike (1852-1938) of Dover, NH, and Boston, MA, who states in a 1922 letter, "The famous salver...is in the Museum of Fine Arts here at present. I loaned it to them but it will eventually be the possession of the New Hampshire Historical Society, and is so designated in my will."
