- It is thought that this piece may be the work of Peter Flanders who started his Millville pottery in 1807 after serving as apprentice in the Clark pottery. He was first the apprentice in the Clark shop, joining him in 1795 at the age of 11. He remained with Clark until he was 21 and went to the Lyndeborough to work for a time. In 1807 he was back in Concord and was soon in business for himself. After a period of driving the stage between Concord and Plymouth, he sold his Millville property to Richard Flanders Jr. and went to Plymouth to start a pottery business there. In a deed of 1813 he conveyed to Flanders nearly three acres of land with a dwelling house, barn, and potter's shop.
