Lamp, Candle
- Object Name:
- Lamp, Candle
- Object ID:
- 1977.055.18
- Description:
- Candle lamp, brass, steel, tin, Spring-loaded. Sheet-metal brass face that is distorted so its configuration not entirely known. It may be that base was taller than it is now. On top of it is a brass, two-candle tube assembly with fixed candle follower at top to tubes and probably a spring inside tubes to push candles against followers. Two threaded caps above a flange at bottom ends of tubes. At top of tubes is oval vertical flue made of sheet-metal with rolled-top edge. Oval conical section shade on front which intersects with flue. Shade has rolled edge on front. Both pieces are ferrous sheet-metal. Green paint on outside of shade and flue. Off-white paint on inside surfaces. Paint flaking and badly damaged in some areas on inside and some losses on outside. Brass tubes have dark orange-brown color that is flaking off in some areas and abraded in some areas. Wax residues on inside at top of candle tubes and in base portions of flue assembly. Assemblies should be taken apart to investigate supposition that they are spring-loaded and better understand how they come apart and operate.
