- Description:
- Lantern. Brass, glass, and iron. Two-burner oil. Wick guides appear to be iron tubes soldered into threaded collar that screws into top of reservoir. Two spring brass locking tabs on side of reservoir that allow unit to lock in place in the spun brass base unit. Brass base is cylinder with three reed decorations near top and a series of six-pointed stars cut out around lower section. Soldered-in-place spun brass foot that flares out with a fluted section, then a reeded section to a fluted flared foot to rolled edge. Squat glass globe that is 4.4" high from brass base to brass top. Held in place by plaster in base and plaster in top section. Glass globe has fairly heavy wall thickness. On top of glass is a cylindrical brass vent section that has four reeded designs near base followed by flat area that has alternating diamonds and six-pointed star perforations. Sharp rib at top of flat section where an ogee curve becomes smaller under a loose shallow dome section. This is held in place by central top rivet. Top section has a flat top, a small concave section followed by a larger convex section that leads to small rim at its base. Tall rounded brass hoop handle that connects through sides of flat base section above perforated decorations. Inside top section is a cylindrical iron section that has some rust on it; this acts as a baffle for exhaust gases to pass out through top section without having air drafts causing flames to flicker. Some of exhaust also goes out through small holes in shallow dome section on top. Air for burner passes through decorative cutouts on base.
