Provenance:
Clock with maker's name of Simeon Cate, Jr. (1790-1835), of Sanbornton, NH, though it is possible that the movement may have been made by someone else in Cate's shop (Demetrius Holcomb and Romanta Peck were both known to have worked at Cate's shop in the 1810s and 1820s, and were both related to Cate by marriage). Painted dial was likely painted by Caroline Conner, who worked for Cate.
Acquired by donor -- Charles S. Parsons (1904-1988) -- in 1957 at Wing's Antique Shop, Concord, N.H. Part of a large clock collection (and related materials) including not only clocks made in N.H., but also several made elsewhere, acquired in N.H. by the donor and probably used here.
