- Clock believed to have been owned by Sarah Thompson (1774-1852), Countess Rumford, and used by her in Paris. Although born in Concord, NH, she spent most of her life in London and Paris, returning permanently to Concord in 1845. The Countess's will mentions two French timepieces, and her inventory mentions a mantel clock -- probably this one -- which was claimed by her adopted daughter (Emma Gannell -- grandmother of the donor).
Clock is part of the Edwin G. (Gannell) Burgum Collection. Edwin Gannell Burgum (1858-1948) was donor's father, and son of John Burgum (1826-1907) and Emma Gannell (1826-1923). - Credit Line:
